2024 Ag Mechanics CDE- Forage Production

It was decided to align the Texas FFA CDE ATMS Contest to better fit the National Contest and guided examples within each skill set. 

Machinery & Equipment- (Individual Skills)

Round Balers

• Identify safe machinery operational practices.
• Identify the recommended service and maintenance operations from the operator’s manual.
• Select lubricants for machinery and equipment.
• Identify functions of machinery components.
• Identify parts and functions of hydraulic systems.
• Match tractors to implement.
• Install, operate, maintain, adjust and evaluate machine systems for field conditions

Electrical – (Individual Skill)

AC Wiring - 120 volt branch circuits

• Single pole switches 
• 3 way switches 
• GFCI, Duplex Receptacles, 
• Light Fixtures 
• breaker box

Compact Equipment- (Individual Skill)

Small Engines - single or multi cylinder engines (roughly 30 HP or less?) OHV engines

• Perform recommended periodic service jobs (as found in operator’s manuals).
• Use measuring tools and test instruments such as micrometer and telescoping gauges, dial indicator,
• compression tester, torque wrench, VOA (volt-ohm-amp) meter, DMM (digital multi-meter), timing
• devices, tachometer and dynamometer for determining test procedures.
• Remove, service and replace electrical components.
• Test and service batteries, charging, lighting, warning and cranking systems
• Select and use engine overhaul equipment, including valve, cylinder, piston, seal and bearing tools.
• Service and maintain fuel, air intake and exhaust, cooling and lubrication systems

Environmental & NR- (Team Activity)

Surveying - 

• Conduct Land Surveying practices (profile leveling, differential leveling)
• determine land shaping and grading requirements
• Lay out grade stakes for cuts/fills
• layout and map contour lines

Structures- (Team Activity)

Wood structures - 

• Determine the size, specifications and layout of building (stud frame)
• develop a bill of materials
• interpret plans and working drawings
• rafter layout and construction
• ·operate power tools such as drills and saws
